Dragons of Pern
One of the best series of books ever written in my opinion. Such beautiful, colorful in-depth writting. Made me wish I could live there and be a Dragon rider (or at least have one of the little Fire Lizards)
I got hooked on these books when I picked the first one up on a whim from the library. I read it and a few more after that while I was recovering from a surgery. (It's also when I discovered the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, but that will be a separate thread)
I especially liked the Harper Hall trilogy, and the MasterHarper of Pern. (it was the band geek in me)

I love this series too! I like that it's 99% "fantasy" (low tech, dragons, etc) , but it's set in the far flung future of us, and towards the end of the series they find some "artifacts" that bring in some SF as well - but in a way that doesn't change the feel of the world (well, in general - it did specifically in a big way).

Yeah, and then that stuff ties into her "Singing Ship"series and Crystal Singer" series.

It does?!? I didn't know that! I've never read that series.
I soo have to go track it down now (blasted!! I'm never going to make it through TBR pile! )

I know.. mine keeps groing now too with the addition of the True Blood books and finishing the Sword of Truth series, and now the 17 books of the Anita Blake series, and the 8 of the Meredith Gentry series, and then Jackie got me interested in the Urban Shaman series by CE Murphy because of the opening line:
"There is nothing worse that a red-eye flight. O.K., there are a few things, like starving children in Africa, [something I can't remeber], and Austin Powers' teeth."

lol... have you tried the Rogue Angel books? They are truly Fluff, but they're mostly fun. The main character, Annja Creed, is kind of a cross between Sara Pezzini from Witchblade and Lara Croft from Tomb Raider. It's not fantasy...
more action/adventure with a little supernatural/paranormal thrown in.

Yeah... A brain ship actually 'rescues' some of the original colonists after the big volcano erupts...
I love how all her books tend to tie together, even though they are completely different they all seem to be set in the same Universe.

I saw the Rogue Angel series while I was at the library today, I almost got them, but something else caught my eye.

I didn't know the library had them. That's cool.
Re: Dragons of Pern
