What is your favorite scary movie?
My all time favorite is Halloween. It terrified me as a kid and I have always loved it.
Movies that scare me the most usually have the killers face hidden (Halloween, The Strangers) or involve evil children (The Omen, Pet Semetary, Children of the Corn).
What is everyone else's favorite scary movie? I would love to hear about some I maybe haven't seen before.

I'm of the new school, so I lean towards 28 days later. Doesn't hurt that it was roughly the first horror movie I actually saw
I rather like The Exorcist and many zombie movies as well, but I also like crazy-bastard flicks like The Shining (Kubrick did it better than King).

Cameron's Closet
So bad it even scared my mom, and she had to come sleep in my room for a few nights since I didn't have a closet in my room.
Now watching Amityville Horror didn't scare me, but reading the book to it and another one called Hell House made me have to sleep with the llights on, and I was around 30 at the time.

I love The Exorcist and The Shining! The 2 litte girls in the hall and the lady in the bathtub totally creep me out.

I have never heard of Cameron's Closet. I will have to check it out.

The Exorcist and Amityville Horror are pretty high up on my list. I've always had a thing for stuff dealing with ghosts and demons. The recent "A Haunting in Connecticut" wasn't bad either.

I HATED Haunting in Conn. Maybe it was because
- Spoiler:
- Nobody bloody dies!
Re: What is your favorite scary movie?
I haven't seen A Haunting in Connecticut. I did see The Haunting of Molly Hartley a couple weeks ago. I did not like it at all.
I like movies about ghosts too. Have you seen Stir of Echos? I really like it.

Re: What is your favorite scary movie?
Haunting of Molly Hartly wasn't even worth the $2.59 to RENT it! There wasn't even any Haunting to it! And it wasn't very well done either. Lame plot, lame ending. At least the actors/actresses TRIED their best with what they were given.

Favorite horror film...
Too many...
Well I have to break this down into specifics...
1. Theatrical film(s) - The Mummy (classic Universal film and classic Hammer film) and Dawn Of The Dead (1978 version)
2. TV-movie(s) - Salem's Lot (1979) and Trilogy Of Terror:Prey (1974)

What...?? NO ONE PICKED PHANTASM??? That movie freaked me out first time I saw it.
Too many to name really but one from my childhood that creeped me out was DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK because of these little critters that drag the gal to be basement.
And GARGOYLES (1972) terrified me as child.

as far as me actually being scared ... Hm, I was terrified of the Star Child in 2001 and 2010 as a kid :p
Re: What is your favorite scary movie?
The original Texas Chainsaw Massachre. The original Halloween. The original Night of the Living Dead. An American Werewolf In London. Hellraiser. The evil Dead. The Fall Of The House Of Usher. Dark Remains. And so many others. Most of the 600 dvds I have are horror. I am a sucker for zombie movies.

Re: What is your favorite scary movie?
Phantasm and Gargoyles (that lovely 1972 tv-movie)!!! Give me that 'old-time horror show' goodness.
What's the big difference between today's horror film and those of decades past? The answers might be below...
1. Back then SFX was used much less. Thus yesterday's horror film had to work on the principle of "not what you see, but rather what you THOUGHT you saw". Yesterday's horror film worked your own imagination via subtle suggestion.
2. Today's horror film is polluted with too much SFX. Nothing is left to the imagination. Suggestion is always more powerful than mindless gore-fests.
3. Films and TV shows of today try too hard to be hip with today's teen crowd. Listen to the dialogue - hip cliche after hip cliche. Thus too many teenybopper shows cluttter the cinema and airwaves. The fact is the kids of today are too ignorant to know a good show from a bad show. Many of them do not know the history of the horror film - or film in general for that matter. Sad really.

Man, how could I forget Phantasm?!?! Definately creepy/gross! ACtually had to hide my eyes a few times, and that's saying something coming from me!

I always thought Phantasm would make a great T.V. show. It would have to be on HBO or Showtime though.

Re: What is your favorite scary movie?
"The Omen" is a good one, and I think "Alien" has to be classified as a horror movie. And, "The Ring" is good (American version good, Japanese original better). Lots of others!
