Star Trek: Enterprise - Fifth Season NX-01 Refit

The Ships Of The Line 2011 calendar is already in the planning stages. A preview released reveals the major refit done to Captain Archer's NX-01. The NX-01 has been a controversial design since it first came into being. Many a Trekkie found fault with the early starship. One gripe has always been it looks too much like a 24th century design. Specifically it looks like the Akira Class. Thus some have nicknamed the NX-01 the 'Akiraprise'. The Star Trek: Enterprise series lasted only four seasons. However Simon and Schuster-Pocket Books has continued the series in novel form. You might call their efforts the 'fifth season' of the series. More importantly this novel-centric continuation involves a major Trek milestone - the Romulan War. One of the developments in this 'fifth season' is a retcon between the NX class ships and the Daedalus class ships of Starfleet. The conflict with the Romulans has prompted an arms race for the Warp 7 capable starship. Starfleet engineers are taking the best of the NX class and the Daedalus class and merging them into a composite designs. One of the results is an overhaul of the NX class design. The resulting refit pushes the NX class toward the classic Enterprise profile - that being a design with a low slung secondary hull. Basically this move is the jumping off point for Bonaventure class (The Animated Series), the Contstitution class (TOS) and the JJAbramsverse designs.

I thought Enterprise was great; with soooooooooo much potential for season 5,6, and 7. I also loved the NX-01. I would argue that the Akira looks too much like a 23nd century ship, not the other way around.
